EMS providers from around the world look to NuWay for our entire range of services—packaging, component prepping, conformal coating, and more.

For more than 30 years, NuWay has provided electro-mechanical assembly service for the fire protection industry.

Metal parts manufacturers represent one of NuWay’s largest customer segments for Tape & Reel packaging. Parts include clips, shields, battery holders, contacts, test points, and more.

NuWay tapes millions of fasteners every year for a variety of manufacturers and industries. One of our specialties is attaching a pickup pad, typically made of Kapton, to each piece to enable automated pick-and-place.

The Medical Device Manufacturing uses NuWay for electromechanical
assembly service, and also for Tape & Reel packaging.

NuWay is eager to help customers solve problems, reduce cost and shorten lead
times.
Here are a few examples of how NuWay’s talent and experience has helped customers:
Solution 1
Issue: A mechanical engineer at NuWay’s customer needed a gold-plated
socket to mount in a printed circuit board and hold a sensing device. He could not
find the right configuration off the shelf, and he knew that he would need them on
tape and reel for automated assembly. He asked NuWay for help.
Solution: NuWay identified a high-quality source for a custom-made
socket, for a price lower than a standard model. NuWay also developed a custom SMT
carrier tape. Prototypes were manufactured, taped and approved by the end user. NuWay
went into production and has shipped over 350,000 pieces to date.

Solution 2
Issue: A miniature speaker with permanent magnet, purchased from
NuWay, began to pick up metallic fragments during the customer's manufacturing
process. By the time the unit was ready to ship, it had many fragments on it.
Ultimately, the unit was unusable even though it met all specifications.
Solution: NuWay reviewed the problem and found an inexpensive piece
of removable tape to apply to the delicate face of the speaker. The tape could be
easily and safely removed at the end of the process. It ensured that no fragments
would stick to the speaker, eliminating a cause of scrap and an aggravating problem.

Solution 3
Issue: A PCB assembly company found themselves with thousands of SMT
connectors in inventory, on reels, ready to place. But their pick-and-place equipment
was unable to pick them up because of gaps and irregular features on the tops of the
connectors.
Solution: NuWay was able to open the carrier tape, apply an adhesive
Kapton pad to the top of each part, re-seal the carrier, and rewind the reels. The
adhesive pads were circles and rectangles kept in stock at NuWay for just this purpose.
The turnaround was fast, and helped the customer make use of thousands of dollars of
otherwise unusable connectors.

Solution 4
Issue: A manufacturer of automotive controls approached NuWay’s
booth at a trade show, showing a handful of metal clips designed for through-hole
assembly to a PC board. He needed them packaged in SMT-style carrier tape for
pick-and-place assembly.
Solution: This was tricky, because the part had long legs and needed
to be held in a precise position for high-speed assembly. NuWay developed a custom
carrier tape. Taped samples were submitted and approved on the first round, and NuWay
went into production. NuWay also suggested and provided an extra-large diameter reel
to reduce cost. In addition, NuWay set up a program to re-use the reels multiple
times, further reducing the cost to the customer. Parts are now taped regularly with
same-day and next-day service.

Solution 5
Issue: When a customer's business suddenly grew 400%, they worried that
NuWay would not be able to keep up with their increased demand for cable assemblies and
testing.
Solution: NuWay met with and assured the customer that increased
volume would not be an issue. NuWay dedicated staff to build their product, added to its
second shift operation, and enhanced internal processes to meet the customer's goals.
